WHAT IS A NATAL CHART?

How to Read One and Use It in the Key Areas of Your Life

by Novrena Dept. of Holistic Living Research

Have you ever looked at a natal chart and wondered what all those symbols, circles, lines, houses, and planets actually mean? **What Is a Natal Chart?** was written for the complete beginner. You do not need to know your rising sign, understand astrology terminology, or have any experience reading charts. This book starts at the beginning and walks you through the chart piece by piece until you can understand how the entire system fits together. Learn what the planets represent, what the twelve zodiac signs mean, why a chart is divided into twelve houses, what the colored lines and aspects between planets represent, and why your exact birth time and location matter. Most importantly, you will learn the simple framework behind reading a chart: **the planet shows what is operating, the sign shows how it operates, the house shows where it operates, and the aspect shows how it interacts with everything else.** From there, the book shows you how to connect the pieces instead of memorizing hundreds of isolated meanings. You will learn how astrologers examine relationships, money, career, business, family, communication, creativity, habits, personal development, and major life transitions through the structure of a natal chart. You will also learn how transits are used to examine different periods of life without treating astrology as unavoidable fate. Complete with an example natal chart, quick-reference guides, house and planetary explanations, aspect references, and the **NOVRENA Natal Chart Reading Worksheet**, this book gives beginners a practical system they can actually follow. If a natal chart has always looked like a confusing wheel filled with symbols, start here. By the end, you will understand what you are looking at, what the major pieces mean, and how to begin putting them together for yourself. **By Novrena Dept. of Holistic Living Research**

FROM MODEL TO BRAND

The Modern Business Guide to Modeling, Social Media, Sponsorships, and Ownership

by Novrena Dept of Business and Research and Development

**FROM MODEL TO BRAND** is not a book about waiting to be discovered. It is a business guide for turning your look, personality, content, and name into commercial value. The modeling industry has changed. Agencies, runways, and traditional castings still matter, but today’s models can also find opportunities through social media, UGC, brand partnerships, e-commerce, hospitality, fitness, beauty, lifestyle advertising, promotional work, sponsorships, affiliate marketing, and direct relationships with businesses. **From Model to Brand: The Modern Business Guide to Modeling, Social Media, Sponsorships, AI, and Ownership** explains how to navigate this larger marketplace and build something that can survive beyond the next photoshoot. Created by the **Novrena Dept. of Business Research and Development**, this practical guide breaks down how to identify the modeling markets that fit you, build the right portfolio and professional materials, find agencies and paying clients, understand contracts and image usage, approach brands directly, create UGC, build a commercially attractive social-media presence, and turn your name into a recognizable brand. The book goes further than getting booked. Readers learn how to develop multiple sources of income around their image and skills, build relationships with companies, organize modeling activities like a real business, use indirect branding to create stronger commercial associations, and eventually move toward products, services, media, production, licensing, or other forms of ownership. A dedicated chapter also explores how modern models can use **artificial intelligence as a business tool**—helping with market research, content planning, brand pitches, video concepts, media kits, prospecting, workflow organization, performance analysis, and other tasks that once required a larger team. The book concludes with a practical **90-day Model-to-Brand launch system** designed to move the reader from planning into actual market activity. Whether you want to pursue traditional modeling, commercial campaigns, social-media partnerships, UGC, or build a larger personal brand, *From Model to Brand* approaches modeling from a different perspective: Your appearance may get attention. Your professionalism can turn attention into opportunity. Your reputation can create leverage. But the long-term objective is to build something you can control. **The model is the beginning. The brand is the business.**

Novrena City Business Guide vol 3

Kansas City, Missouri

by Novrena Dept. of Business Research and Development

Kansas City is more than barbecue, sports, and a recognizable skyline. Beneath the surface is a powerful Midwestern economy built on transportation, logistics, healthcare, manufacturing, real estate, professional services, construction, technology, tourism, and thousands of small businesses. For entrepreneurs and investors willing to understand how the city actually works, Kansas City can become a landscape of opportunity. **Novrena City Business & Economic Guide Vol. 3: Kansas City, Missouri** approaches the city from the perspective of ownership rather than observation. Instead of simply describing Kansas City, this guide asks a more valuable question: **Where is the money moving, and how can an entrepreneur position a business or investment in its path?** Written for aspiring entrepreneurs, existing business owners, independent professionals, and beginning investors, this guide examines Kansas City through the principles of cash flow, assets, leverage, market demand, economic development, and long-term ownership. Readers are introduced to the forces shaping the local economy and shown how major industries create opportunities far beyond the corporations and institutions that dominate the headlines. Explore Kansas City's business environment, real estate landscape, logistics economy, neighborhood development, service-business opportunities, digital entrepreneurship, access to capital, and the economic forces influencing the city's future. Learn to recognize the difference between simply having a job in a growing economy and owning assets that can benefit from that growth. The goal is not to tell readers that every opportunity will work. It is to teach them how to **evaluate a city like an investor and think about business like an owner.** Kansas City is changing. New investment, infrastructure, development, population shifts, tourism, transportation, and entrepreneurship are creating new patterns of demand. Those patterns can create opportunities for restaurants, contractors, transportation companies, property investors, professional services, home-service businesses, retailers, digital companies, hospitality operators, and entrepreneurs willing to solve problems others overlook. **The city is the marketplace. The economy is the map. Ownership is the destination.** **Novrena City Business & Economic Guide Vol. 3: Kansas City, Missouri** gives entrepreneurs a framework for learning how to read that map.

Novrena City Business Guide vol. 2

Detroit, MI

by Novrena Dept. of Business Research and Development

Detroit is not just a comeback story. It is an economic market filled with opportunities that many people still do not know how to recognize. Novrena City Business and Economic Guide Vol. 2: Detroit, Michigan is a practical guide to understanding Detroit through the lens of business ownership, asset acquisition, income creation, redevelopment, and long-term wealth building. Rather than treating Detroit as a traditional city guide, this book examines how the city actually works economically. It explores the forces shaping Detroit’s neighborhoods, housing market, industrial ecosystem, small-business environment, employment base, redevelopment activity, and emerging opportunities. Readers will learn how to distinguish low prices from genuine value, evaluate neighborhoods through economic fundamentals, identify underserved business markets, understand Detroit’s automotive and industrial ecosystem, combine digital income with a lower-cost operating base, approach credit and capital strategically, and build systems capable of turning individual opportunities into lasting assets. The book also examines the mindset required to operate in a recovering post-industrial market. Detroit demonstrates why public perception can lag behind economic change and why investors, entrepreneurs, workers, and aspiring business owners must learn to separate headlines from measurable conditions. Special attention is given to real estate strategy, small-business opportunities, industrial support businesses, digital income, redevelopment funding, neighborhood economics, business formation, economic statistics, and the programs and institutions influencing Detroit’s continued transformation. This is not a promise of easy money, overnight success, or guaranteed investment returns. It is a framework for learning how to observe a changing city, recognize economic gaps, evaluate risk, control costs, acquire productive assets, and position yourself before opportunities become obvious to everyone else. Whether you are considering moving to Detroit, starting a business, investing in property, creating additional income, or simply trying to understand where the city may be headed economically, this guide provides a structured starting point. Detroit has already changed dramatically. The more important question is whether you understand the economic structure taking shape beneath that change. How Rappers Turned Conversation Into a New Media Business

by Novrena Dept. of Music and Entertainment History

Hip-hop spent decades teaching artists that the microphone was power. Then the business changed the meaning of power. A hit record could generate millions of streams while the artist watched labels, publishers, distributors, managers, platforms, and rights holders divide the money before it ever reached their pocket. Fame remained valuable. Attention remained valuable. The rapper’s voice remained valuable. But increasingly, the smartest artists began asking a dangerous question: **Why should music be the only place where that voice gets monetized?** **MIC TO MIC: How Rappers Turned Conversation Into a New Media Business** examines the migration of hip-hop power from the recording booth to the podcast studio. This is not simply a story about rappers starting podcasts. It is the story of artists discovering that conversation itself can become intellectual property, advertising inventory, audience ownership, cultural influence, and an independent business. From artist-led podcasts and viral interviews to YouTube empires, sponsorship agreements, touring shows, subscriptions, licensing opportunities, and brand partnerships, *MIC TO MIC* follows the money behind the new spoken-word economy. It examines why personalities who once needed radio stations, record companies, magazines, and television networks to reach millions can now build media platforms around something the traditional entertainment industry could never completely own: **their personality, their perspective, and their relationship with the audience.** But there is a deeper conflict underneath the microphones. For generations, hip-hop artists helped create enormous wealth while frequently owning only fragments of the machinery that converted culture into capital. Podcasting offers a different proposition. Instead of selling a recording and surrendering control of its economics, an artist can potentially own the show, control the audience relationship, negotiate directly with advertisers, distribute across multiple platforms, sell products around the conversation, and turn celebrity into a media company. The rapper is no longer merely asking, **“How much are you paying me?”** The new question is: **“Why don’t I own the platform you’re paying to reach?”** *MIC TO MIC* explores that transformation through the economics, personalities, companies, deals, conflicts, and technological changes reshaping modern entertainment. It investigates what happens when rappers stop thinking like recording artists and begin thinking like media owners—and why the next great hip-hop fortune may not be built from an album at all. The record industry monetized the rapper’s music. Social media monetized the rapper’s attention. Now rappers are learning to monetize the one thing they never needed permission to possess: **their voice.** **By Novrena Dept. of Music and Entertainment History**

Miseducation of the Negro

by Carter G .Woodson

I can give it the **scholarly, historically grounded, Pan-African-centered character** associated with John Henrik Clarke’s historical writing—without directly copying his distinctive voice. ## The Mis-Education of the Negro ### By Carter G. Woodson What happens to a people when their education teaches them to admire everyone’s history except their own? Carter G. Woodson’s *The Mis-Education of the Negro* is one of the foundational works of African American intellectual history. Published in 1933, the book challenged Black America to examine not simply whether its people were being educated, but **what kind of education they were receiving, who designed that education, and whose interests it ultimately served**. Woodson argued that education could become an instrument of domination when a people were taught to see themselves through the assumptions of those who historically oppressed them. A school could teach reading, writing, history, economics, religion, and politics while simultaneously teaching a student to distrust his own people, misunderstand his history, underestimate his community, and measure success primarily by acceptance into institutions controlled by others. Behind this revolutionary book stood an extraordinary historian. Born in Virginia in 1875 to formerly enslaved parents, Carter Godwin Woodson came from a generation standing only a few years removed from slavery. His road to scholarship did not begin with privilege. He worked in coal mines, entered formal education comparatively late, and nevertheless rose to become one of the most important historians of African American life. Woodson eventually earned a doctorate in history from Harvard University, becoming only the second African American to receive a Ph.D. from Harvard and one of the first professionally trained Black historians in the United States. But credentials alone were not his mission. Woodson understood that a people without command of their history could become intellectually dependent upon those who interpreted the world for them. In 1915, he helped establish what became the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. He later founded *The Journal of Negro History* and created Negro History Week, the intellectual and institutional predecessor of what became Black History Month. His work was therefore larger than the writing of books. Woodson was building an infrastructure for historical memory. *The Mis-Education of the Negro* emerged from that struggle. Woodson examined schools, churches, businesses, universities, professional life, politics, leadership, and economic behavior. He questioned an educational system that could produce highly credentialed Black men and women who knew little about the historical experiences, economic needs, and institutional challenges confronting their own communities. His argument remains provocative because it forces the reader to separate **schooling from education**. A diploma can certify that someone completed a curriculum. Woodson asks a more difficult question: **Did that curriculum teach the student how to think independently?** Nearly a century after its publication, *The Mis-Education of the Negro* continues to speak to debates over education, history, cultural identity, economic independence, institutional power, and the purpose of knowledge itself. This is more than a critique of American education. It is the work of a historian asking a people to recover command of their intellectual inheritance—and then use knowledge to determine their own future. ### Carter G. Woodson: The Life Behind the Book Woodson's life provides the essential context for understanding *The Mis-Education of the Negro*. Born to formerly enslaved parents, he experienced firsthand the enormous distance separating emancipation from genuine educational and economic independence. His early years of labor and delayed formal schooling made his eventual academic achievements particularly remarkable. His education carried him through Berea College, study at the University of Chicago, and ultimately Harvard University, where he earned his doctorate in history in 1912. Yet Woodson discovered that gaining entrance into elite academic institutions did not guarantee that those institutions would seriously study African people or African American history. That realization helped determine his life's work. Rather than waiting for established institutions to decide that Black history mattered, Woodson helped create institutions capable of researching, preserving, publishing, and teaching that history themselves. The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History became a vehicle for historical scholarship. *The Journal of Negro History* created an intellectual platform. Negro History Week brought historical knowledge beyond universities and into schools and communities. Woodson became known as the **Father of Black History** not because he invented Black history, but because he fought to establish its systematic study within a society that had frequently marginalized it. His 1933 masterpiece carried that institutional struggle into the realm of education itself. Woodson's central warning was severe: education that separates people from knowledge of themselves can reproduce domination even after the formal structures of bondage have disappeared. His answer was not ignorance, isolation, or rejection of learning. It was deeper education—historical education, independent thought, economic understanding, institutional knowledge, and serious study of the experiences of African-descended people. Woodson died in 1950, but the infrastructure he helped create survived him. Negro History Week eventually developed into the national observance of Black History Month, while generations of historians expanded the field he had fought to establish. His enduring question remains before every generation: **Are we being educated merely to function within the world as it exists—or educated well enough to understand it, challenge it, and build something better?**

Propaganda

by Naom Chomsky

**Who shapes what the public believes—and how much of what we consider our own opinion was actually shaped for us?** *Propaganda* examines the machinery behind mass persuasion and the forces capable of molding public opinion. It explores how political leaders, corporations, media organizations, advertisers, and other influential institutions can use communication, psychology, repetition, imagery, and carefully constructed narratives to influence how large groups of people think and behave. At the center of the discussion is a disturbing question: **Who controls the ideas that eventually become accepted as common sense?** The book explores the relationship between propaganda and politics, business, public relations, education, social institutions, and mass communication. It reveals how influence does not always operate through obvious commands. The most effective persuasion can work indirectly—shaping the information people encounter, narrowing the choices placed before them, and creating circumstances in which an idea appears to have originated naturally in the public mind. Readers are challenged to think more critically about news, advertising, political messaging, corporate influence, and the manufacture of public opinion. In an era of social media, algorithms, nonstop news, political polarization, and unprecedented access to information, the questions raised by *Propaganda* have become even more relevant. This is a provocative examination of **power, persuasion, media, mass psychology, and the battle for control of the public mind.**

As a Man Thinketh

by James Allen

**Your thoughts are not merely reflections of your life—they are helping to create it.** In *As a Man Thinketh*, James Allen presents one of the most enduring examinations of the relationship between thought, character, circumstances, and personal destiny. First published in 1903, this concise classic is built around a powerful principle: the mind is a creative force, and the thoughts a person consistently cultivates influence the life that person ultimately builds. Allen explores how thought shapes character, how habits of mind influence circumstances, and why meaningful achievement begins internally before it becomes visible externally. Rather than presenting success as a matter of luck or chance, he challenges readers to examine the mental patterns behind their choices, ambitions, struggles, and actions. Throughout the book, Allen addresses the power of purpose, disciplined thinking, personal responsibility, achievement, vision, and serenity. His message is both philosophical and practical: when people learn to govern their thoughts instead of being governed by them, they gain greater control over the direction of their lives. More than a century after its original publication, *As a Man Thinketh* remains a foundational work in personal development and success philosophy. Its ideas have influenced generations of writers, entrepreneurs, teachers, and motivational thinkers who have explored the connection between mindset and achievement. For readers interested in **mental discipline, personal growth, purpose, success, self-mastery, and the extraordinary power of thought**, James Allen's timeless work offers a simple but demanding challenge: **Change the quality of your thinking, and you can begin changing the quality of your life.**

THE TRIALS OF EMMA GOLDMAN

Crime, Justice, and Political Repression in America

by Novrena Dept. of Crime and Justice History

**She was called dangerous. She was arrested, watched, prosecuted, imprisoned, and finally deported. But what, exactly, was Emma Goldman's crime?** ***The Trials of Emma Goldman: Crime, Justice, and Political Repression in America*** examines the extraordinary collision between one of America's most controversial political radicals and the expanding machinery of American law enforcement. Published by the **Novrena Dept. of Crime and Justice History**, this book begins before the famous trials—when Goldman was a young immigrant finding her political identity—and follows the events that transformed her into a target of police departments, prosecutors, judges, politicians, immigration authorities, and the emerging federal intelligence system. Across thirteen chapters, the book reconstructs Goldman's encounters with the American justice system: the aftermath of Alexander Berkman's attempted assassination of industrialist Henry Clay Frick, Goldman's 1893 prosecution following her Union Square speech, the assassination of President William McKinley and the investigation of Goldman after Leon Czolgosz identified with anarchism, her battles over free speech and birth control, and the federal prosecution that followed her campaign against military conscription during World War I. The story introduces the officials on both sides of the fight, including **Judge Julius M. Mayer, Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, Harry Weinberger, Louis F. Post, and the young J. Edgar Hoover**, whose early anti-radical work placed him within the federal effort that ultimately helped remove Goldman from the United States. But this is not a book that turns Goldman into either a flawless martyr or a convenient villain. Her relationships with revolutionary militants, her views on political violence, and the government's legitimate security concerns are examined alongside the dangers of guilt by association, political surveillance, ideological prosecution, and deportation. Who supported Goldman? Who wanted her removed? What evidence did authorities actually possess? When did political dissent become a criminal-justice matter? And how did the government's pursuit of anarchists help build a federal system of political intelligence that would extend far beyond Emma Goldman? From American courtrooms and prisons to the Palmer Raids, the *Buford* deportation ship, revolutionary Russia, and Goldman's eventual return to American soil, ***The Trials of Emma Goldman*** tells the story of a defendant whose cases raised a question the United States has never completely resolved: **Where is the line between protecting a nation from genuine threats and using the power of government to suppress those who challenge it?**

AMERICA'S GAME, AMERICA'S BUSINESS

How the NFL Turned Football Into the Most Powerful Sports Empire in America

by Novrena Dept. of Sports History

**How did a struggling professional football league become the most powerful sports empire in America?** **AMERICA’S GAME, AMERICA’S BUSINESS: How the NFL Turned Football Into the Most Powerful Sports Empire in America** takes readers beyond touchdowns, championships, and legendary players to examine the business machinery that transformed the NFL into a multibillion-dollar institution. Published by the **Novrena Department of Sports History**, this book follows the NFL’s economic journey from the unstable early days of professional football to an era of billion-dollar franchises, massive television contracts, sophisticated stadium deals, salary caps, streaming platforms, corporate sponsorships, and global expansion. The story is about far more than money. It is about **power and leverage**. How did NFL owners learn that sharing television revenue with their competitors could actually make every franchise more valuable? Why does the league intentionally help losing teams rebuild? How did television transform football from a stadium business into a national media empire? Why are cities willing to spend enormous amounts of public money to keep teams from leaving? How did labor battles between players and owners shape free agency, salaries, benefits, and the salary cap? And how did NFL franchises become so scarce that some of the wealthiest people in America compete for the opportunity to buy one? Through ten chapters of sports history and economic analysis, **America’s Game, America’s Business** examines the people, decisions, conflicts, and strategies behind the NFL’s extraordinary rise. The book explores Pete Rozelle and the television revolution, the AFL-NFL battle, revenue sharing, the Super Bowl, franchise relocation, stadium economics, player strikes and lockouts, modern media-rights agreements, streaming, sports betting, franchise appreciation, and the changing relationship between players, owners, broadcasters, cities, and fans. At the center of the story is a remarkable contradiction: NFL teams fight one another relentlessly on the field while their owners cooperate economically to protect the league that makes all of them valuable. That combination of competition and cooperation became one of the great business models in American sports. This is not simply a history of football. It is the story of **how football became an empire—and how the business behind America’s game became almost as fascinating as the game itself.** **AMERICA’S GAME, AMERICA’S BUSINESS** is for football fans, sports-history readers, entrepreneurs, business students, and anyone interested in understanding how television, scarcity, labor, ownership, competition, and fan loyalty combined to build the modern NFL. **By Novrena Department of Sports History**

How the Survival Instincts of Men Can Build Strength, Wealth, and Purpose in the Modern World

by Novrena Dept. of Manhood Empowerment

**FROM WILDERNESS TO WALL STREET** *How the Survival Instincts of Men Can Build Strength, Wealth, and Purpose in the Modern World* **By Novrena Dept. of Manhood Empowerment** Men were built to adapt. Long before modern careers, investment accounts, corporations, and financial markets existed, survival depended on a man's ability to read his environment, conserve resources, cooperate with others, recognize opportunity, withstand uncertainty, and prepare for what might come next. **From Wilderness to Wall Street** argues that those instincts still matter. The wilderness has simply changed. Today's man may not be tracking food across an unforgiving landscape, but he is navigating layoffs, inflation, technological disruption, debt, competition, changing industries, business risk, and an economy capable of transforming faster than many people can prepare for it. The question is no longer whether a man possesses survival instincts, but whether he knows how to redirect them toward the modern challenges of money, work, ownership, and purpose. Written in an engaging, conversational style, this book connects the principles of human survival with practical lessons for modern economic life. It explores how resourcefulness can become financial discipline, how adaptability can become career resilience, how hunting for resources can become hunting for information and opportunity, and how the instinct to protect and provide can evolve into ownership, systems, and long-term legacy. Readers will explore how to strengthen their economic position, develop valuable skills, recognize changing opportunities, build stronger relationships, control resources instead of wasting them, move beyond dependence on labor alone, acquire productive assets, create systems, and begin thinking beyond personal success toward generational impact. At its heart, **From Wilderness to Wall Street** is about more than becoming wealthy. It is about becoming capable. Because jobs can disappear, industries can change, businesses can fail, and markets can turn—but a man who knows how to learn, adapt, rebuild, create value, and recognize opportunity carries something with him that circumstances cannot easily take away. The wilderness taught men how to survive. The modern world demands that they learn how to build. **Strength. Wealth. Ownership. Purpose. Legacy.** The instincts are already there. The challenge is learning how to use them in a new world.

How too many Options are Stealing our Happiness

by Novrena Dept. of Social Studies

**What if having more choices isn’t making us freer—but making us more anxious, distracted, and afraid to commit?** We live in an age of almost unlimited options. Dating apps place thousands of potential partners at our fingertips. Social media gives us a window into lives that seem happier, richer, more attractive, and more exciting than our own. Streaming platforms offer endless entertainment. Careers can be changed, cities explored, products compared, and relationships reconsidered with a swipe. We have more choices than generations before us could have imagined. So why are so many people still wondering if something better is just one more swipe away? **The Quiet Cage: How Too Many Options Are Stealing Our Happiness and What We Can Do About It** examines the hidden psychological cost of modern abundance. Written by **Novrena Dept. of Social Studies**, this thoughtful exploration looks at how endless choice can transform freedom into indecision, comparison into dissatisfaction, and possibility into paralysis. Moving through modern dating culture, social media, consumerism, perfectionism, decision fatigue, fear of missing out, and the pressure to optimize every part of life, *The Quiet Cage* asks a deceptively simple question: **What happens when we become so afraid of choosing the wrong life that we never fully inhabit the one we have?** With warmth, reflection, and practical insight, the book explores why we keep searching after finding something good, why imaginary alternatives often appear better than reality, why commitment can feel frightening in a culture of endless replacement, and how constant comparison quietly changes our definition of “enough.” But *The Quiet Cage* is not an argument against choice, technology, ambition, or personal growth. It is an invitation to reclaim control over them. Across nine chapters, readers are encouraged to develop clearer values, recognize when research has become avoidance, distinguish healthy standards from perfectionism, reduce unnecessary choices, rebuild trust in their own judgment, and rediscover the courage to commit—to relationships, goals, work, and the life directly in front of them. Because freedom is not always found in keeping every door open. Sometimes freedom begins when we finally choose one worth walking through. **The next option isn’t always a better life.**

A Punch and a Robbery

The True Story of Atlanta’s Infamous 1970 Fight Night Heist

**A PUNCH AND A ROBBERY** *The True Story of Atlanta’s Million-Dollar Heist After Muhammad Ali’s Comeback* On October 26, 1970, Muhammad Ali stepped back into the boxing ring after more than three years away from the sport. Atlanta filled with celebrities, gamblers, hustlers, businessmen, and figures from the criminal underworld. Money poured into the city. When the fight ended, the celebration moved elsewhere. Then the guns came out. At an after-party in Atlanta’s Collier Heights neighborhood, armed robbers took control of a house crowded with guests. Men were forced downstairs, stripped of cash, jewelry, watches, and other valuables, while new victims continued walking through the door. Contemporary estimates placed the robbery at around $100,000. Later accounts pushed the figure toward $500,000—and eventually **$1 million**. But stealing the money was only the beginning. Atlanta detective **J. D. Hudson** entered an investigation filled with reluctant witnesses, aliases, abandoned evidence, suspected organized-crime connections, and victims who may have had their own ideas about justice. A shotgun, pillowcases, walkie-talkies, and information from the streets eventually helped investigators build a case. Three men—**McKinley Rogers Jr., James Henry Hall, and Houston J. Hammonds**—were indicted. Then the bodies began appearing. Two indicted fugitives were eventually found shot to death in a Cadillac in the Bronx. Other men later associated with the alleged robbery crew also met violent ends. The killings left investigators with a disturbing possibility: **Had the robbery victims reached the suspects before the police could?** *A Punch and a Robbery* reconstructs the Fight Night case from the robbery itself through the investigation, indictments, fugitives, killings, and unresolved legal aftermath. It also separates documented history from street legend and later dramatization, examining what investigators could prove, what they believed, and what remains uncertain more than fifty years later. This is not a book about Muhammad Ali’s boxing career. Ali’s comeback brought the money to Atlanta. **This is the story of the men who came to take it.**

Companies can increase productivity without increasing payroll at the same rate. Knowledge that once took hours to gather can now be accessed in seconds. But increased productivity raises a much bigger question: **Who owns the productivity?** *AI and the New Economy: Who Wins, Who Loses* examines artificial intelligence from a financial and ownership perspective. Rather than treating AI simply as a technological revolution, the book explores how it could reshape the relationship between workers, businesses, entrepreneurs, investors, and the assets they own. The central argument is simple: **in an economy where intelligence becomes cheaper, ownership becomes more important.** This book explores how workers can move beyond simply competing against machines and begin using AI as leverage. It examines the rise of lean, AI-powered businesses and the emerging possibility of the **one-person corporation**—companies capable of producing significant output without traditional levels of payroll and overhead. It also explores the growing importance of **digital real estate**: websites, intellectual property, software, customer databases, content libraries, brands, memberships, and other digital assets capable of generating long-term value. Inside, you'll discover: * Why AI could increase the economic advantage of ownership over labor * Which kinds of workers may be most exposed to automation * Why becoming more productive does not automatically mean becoming wealthier * How entrepreneurs can use AI to build leaner companies * Why the **one-person corporation** could become an important business model * How knowledge and experience can be converted into intellectual property * Why digital real estate may become increasingly valuable * How to identify the "picks and shovels" opportunities surrounding the AI boom * Why traditional education must adapt to an economy of inexpensive intelligence * How employees can reposition themselves instead of simply fearing automation * Why cash flow, assets, financial literacy, and ownership remain more important than technological hype * How to begin moving from **worker → producer → owner** This is not a book promising that AI will make everyone rich. It is a book about **positioning**. Some people will use artificial intelligence merely to perform their jobs faster. Others will use the same technology to create businesses, intellectual property, systems, and productive assets. That difference could define one of the great wealth divides of the new economy. The machine may become more intelligent. The question is whether **you become more financially powerful while it does.** **The shift is here. The choice is yours.** *By Novrena Dept. of Business Research and Development*

The Black Economic Unity Handbook

A Modern Guide to Cooperative Economics, Business Ownership, and Generational Wealth

by Novrena Dept. of African American Studies

What if Black economic progress depended not only on earning more—but on learning how to build, organize, own, and transfer more? **Black Economic Unity Handbook: A Modern Guide to Cooperative Economics, Business Ownership, and Generational Wealth** examines how Black families and communities can turn individual income, occupational skills, consumer spending, entrepreneurship, and professional knowledge into lasting economic infrastructure. Written by the **Novrena Dept. of African American Studies**, this book moves beyond motivational slogans and asks practical questions: How can families combine their different skills and resources? How can workers learn the business behind their jobs? How can successful entrepreneurs transfer commercial knowledge to the next generation? How can Black-owned businesses become pipelines for future managers and owners? And how can individual success contribute to generational wealth and stronger institutions? The book explores cooperative economics, family economic organization, business ownership, commercial apprenticeship, capital formation, property, succession, supplier networks, and the importance of understanding the entire chain of commerce—not merely the point where the consumer spends money. **Throughout the book, readers will also encounter realistic “Story Examples” that bring the economic principles to life.** These fictionalized scenarios place the lessons inside recognizable Black families, workplaces, businesses, neighborhoods, and everyday financial situations. Rather than presenting economics only through theories and statistics, the stories show what these ideas can look like when real people face disagreements over money, family pressure, business mistakes, missed opportunities, ownership decisions, and the difficult transition from worker to entrepreneur. One example follows a young Black grocery-store employee who realizes that while he has been taught how to stock shelves, the owner's family is learning inventory, suppliers, margins, financing, and management. His discovery leads to a larger question that runs throughout the book: **Are we simply teaching the next generation how to work—or are we also teaching them how the businesses they work for actually operate?** The handbook also extends the discussion into the intellectual tradition of Black economic organization, including an appendix examining major ideas from **Amos N. Wilson's *Blueprint for Black Power*** and **Claud Anderson's *PowerNomics***, connecting their emphasis on organization, ownership, production, institutions, and collective economic capacity to the practical strategies discussed throughout the book. **Black Economic Unity Handbook** is not an argument for economic isolation. It is an argument for greater economic **capacity**—more knowledge, more competitive businesses, more productive assets, stronger networks, better succession planning, and more opportunities for one generation to begin where the previous generation finished. Because generational wealth is not created simply by making money. It is created when **knowledge, ownership, assets, and opportunity survive the generation that created them.** **For readers interested in Black economics, entrepreneurship, cooperative economics, generational wealth, community development, business ownership, and economic self-determination, this handbook offers both a framework for thinking and examples for putting those ideas into perspective.**

When the Debt came Due

Twelve Times in History When Reparations Were Actually Paid

by Novrena Dept of Global History

Reparations are often discussed as though they are an untested idea. History tells a different story. **WHEN THE DEBT CAME DUE: Twelve Times in History When Reparations Were Actually Paid** examines real cases in which governments, institutions, and international bodies provided financial compensation or material redress for historical injustice. From Germany's post-Holocaust agreement with Israel and compensation for Japanese American incarceration to the Rosewood settlement, New Zealand's Treaty of Waitangi settlements, South Africa's post-apartheid reparations, Canada's Indian Residential Schools Settlement, the Swiss Banks Holocaust settlement, and compensation connected to U.S. nuclear testing in the Marshall Islands, this book follows the money and the history behind it. The book also examines the contradictions surrounding reparations. Britain abolished slavery while paying millions to slaveholders rather than the formerly enslaved. Germany acknowledged the genocide of the Herero and Nama and committed €1.1 billion while resisting the formal designation of the payment as reparations. The United Nations established an international compensation system that ultimately paid billions following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. Each case reveals a different path to redress. Some payments came through legislation. Others resulted from lawsuits, international agreements, political organizing, claims tribunals, or decades of pressure from survivors and descendants. Written by the **Novrena Department of Global History**, *When the Debt Came Due* provides an accessible historical examination of what happened, who demanded compensation, who ultimately received it, how much was committed or paid, and why governments that once resisted responsibility eventually agreed to provide material redress. This is not a book about whether reparations are theoretically possible. **It is the history of what happened when the debt actually came due.**

OPIUM,BANKS, AND CASINOS

## **OPIUM, BANKS, AND CASINOS** How Britain's Opium Trade Built Casinos, Financed Empire, and Changed China Forever What if one of history's greatest empires wasn't built by military conquest alone—but by narcotics, banking, and vice? *Opium, Banks, and Casinos* uncovers the hidden financial system that helped reshape the modern world. Long before multinational corporations, offshore banking, and global organized crime, the British Empire engineered a sophisticated network that connected India's poppy fields, China's growing addiction crisis, Macau's gambling culture, Hong Kong's strategic harbor, and London's financial institutions. As Britain's appetite for Chinese tea drained its silver reserves, imperial leaders faced an economic crisis that threatened the empire itself. Their solution was one of the most controversial trade systems in world history: transforming opium into a geopolitical weapon. The result was a vast commercial machine that moved narcotics across oceans, financed imperial expansion, and ultimately led to the First Opium War. This book examines how Britain's opium economy functioned as far more than a drug trade. It became a banking system, a logistics network, and an early model of global finance. It explores the rise of Hong Kong as a strategic maritime hub, Macau's evolution into a center of gambling and vice, the merchant families who amassed enormous fortunes, and the social infrastructure that allowed the trade to flourish despite China's efforts to stop it. Drawing from historical research and global economic analysis, *Opium, Banks, and Casinos* also examines how many of the organizational principles developed during the opium era—offshore operations, compartmentalized distribution, financial laundering, protected ports, and vice economies—reappeared in later transnational criminal organizations. Inside you'll discover: * Why Britain's dependence on Chinese tea created an imperial financial crisis. * How Bengal became the world's first industrial-scale opium production center. * The merchant dynasties that helped shape British policy in Asia. * The rise of Hong Kong and Macau as complementary centers of commerce and vice. * The political and economic forces that led to the Opium War. * How the structures created during the opium trade influenced later illicit global networks. Blending history, economics, geopolitics, and finance, *Opium, Banks, and Casinos* offers readers a fresh perspective on one of the most consequential chapters in modern history. It is a story of trade, power, addiction, empire, and the lasting systems that continued long after the war had ended. Some empires were built with armies. Others were financed one shipment at a time.

Health over Tradition

How to Overcome Family and Community Cultures That Lead to Disease and Stress

by Novrena Dept of Holistic Living Research

What if some of the habits we call tradition are quietly working against our health? In every culture, families pass down more than recipes, celebrations, beliefs, and stories. We also inherit attitudes toward food, stress, work, caregiving, masculinity, emotional expression, illness, and what it means to take care of ourselves. Some of these traditions strengthen us. Others can contribute to patterns of chronic stress and unhealthy living that repeat from one generation to the next. In Health Over Tradition: How to Overcome Family and Community Cultures That Lead to Disease and Stress, the Novrena Department of Holistic Living Research examines the powerful relationship between culture, lifestyle, family expectations, community environments, and long-term well-being. This book challenges readers to look beyond the familiar phrase “it runs in the family” and ask a deeper question: What else runs in the family? Eating patterns run in families. Stress responses run in families. Attitudes toward medical care run in families. Silence around emotional pain can run in families. Expectations about masculinity, caregiving, celebration, work, rest, and sacrifice can also pass from one generation to another. Health Over Tradition explores how these learned patterns can become so deeply connected to identity that changing them feels like rejecting the people and communities we love. But healthier living does not require cultural rejection. It requires cultural evolution. Through a direct, multicultural examination of family life and community health, this book explores food traditions and metabolic health, generational stress and emotional inheritance, the relationship between genetics and repeated lifestyle patterns, men’s reluctance to prioritize preventive care, women’s caregiving burden and exhaustion, celebration culture and overconsumption, neighborhood conditions and disease, and the process of reprogramming inherited health beliefs. Most importantly, Health Over Tradition is about transformation. It presents a vision in which families can preserve the love, wisdom, identity, connection, and resilience within their cultures while having the courage to change practices that no longer serve their health. You do not have to disrespect your ancestors to make different choices from them. You do not have to reject your family to establish healthier boundaries. You do not have to abandon cultural foods to rethink how they are prepared and consumed. And you do not have to accept every pattern you inherited as the pattern you must pass forward. Tradition tells us where we came from. Awareness helps us decide where we go next. For readers seeking lifestyle transformation and a deeper understanding of the connection between culture and wellness, Health Over Tradition offers a challenging but empowering message: honor what gives your culture life, transform what diminishes it, and build healthier traditions for the generations still to come. Health can become part of the inheritance.

Black Baseball, Power, Money, and the Business of Segregation

by Novrena Dept. of Sports History

# Before Jackie! ## Black Baseball, Power, Money, and the Business of Segregation **What if the greatest business story in baseball happened before Jackie Robinson?** Long before the integration of Major League Baseball, Black entrepreneurs built one of the most successful sports enterprises in American history. Shut out of organized white baseball, they created their own leagues, developed legendary athletes, built thriving businesses, and generated economic opportunity throughout Black communities across America. *Before Jackie!* reveals the untold economic story of the Negro Leagues—not simply as a chapter in sports history, but as a remarkable example of entrepreneurship, leadership, and community investment. From the creation of independent Black teams after baseball's unwritten color line to the visionary leadership of Rube Foster and the rise of the Negro National League, this book explores how Black owners transformed exclusion into opportunity. Packed stadiums, thriving business districts, Black-owned newspapers, hotels, restaurants, and transportation companies all became part of a vibrant economic ecosystem fueled by America's national pastime. But the story doesn't end with success. When Jackie Robinson broke baseball's color barrier in 1947, he forever changed American sports and opened doors for generations of Black athletes. Yet integration also carried an unintended consequence—the gradual decline of one of the largest Black-owned business networks in professional sports history. Rather than viewing the Negro Leagues solely through the lens of segregation, *Before Jackie!* presents a richer story of innovation, resilience, ownership, and economic achievement. Inside you'll discover: • How Black entrepreneurs built a thriving professional baseball industry from the ground up • The vision of Rube Foster and the creation of the Negro National League • How Black baseball fueled local businesses and strengthened entire communities • The business strategies that sustained the Negro Leagues for decades • Why integration transformed both opportunity and ownership in American sports • The lasting lessons the Negro Leagues offer today's entrepreneurs, business leaders, and sports fans Blending sports history, business history, and African American history, *Before Jackie!* offers a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest untold success stories. Perfect for readers of baseball history, Black history, entrepreneurship, and American business, this compelling account reveals that before Jackie Robinson changed Major League Baseball, Black America had already changed baseball itself.

How the Right Woman Strengthens Your Purpose, Protects Your Peace, and Builds a Legacy That Lasts

by Novrena Dept. of Manhood Empowerment

Most men spend years building careers, chasing success, and pursuing purpose—while completely underestimating one decision that will shape every part of their future: The woman they choose to marry. In The Power of a Wife, the Novrena Department of Manhood Empowerment delivers a serious and thought-provoking examination of how marriage influences a man’s peace, discipline, finances, leadership, emotional stability, and long-term legacy. This is not a modern relationship book built on emotion, trends, or entertainment. It is a strategic framework for men who understand that environment determines outcomes—and that the woman closest to them will either strengthen their future or slowly destroy it. Drawing from: • Biblical insight • Historical examples • Psychological analysis • Cultural traditions • Financial realities • Leadership principles this book reveals how the right woman can multiply a man’s focus, purpose, and legacy, while the wrong woman can create years of instability, distraction, emotional exhaustion, and generational damage. Inside this book, you will discover: • Why marriage is one of the most strategic decisions a man will ever make • How emotional environments shape discipline, productivity, and success • The financial impact of relational alignment and instability • Historical examples of men elevated—or destroyed—by relationships • Why peace is one of the greatest assets a man can possess • How to evaluate character beyond attraction and emotion • The connection between marriage, leadership, and generational legacy • Why standards determine outcomes in every area of life Written in a disciplined and analytical tone, The Power of a Wife challenges modern thinking and restores a timeless truth: A man’s partner influences the environment he lives in every day. That environment shapes his habits. His habits shape his results. And his results become his legacy. For men serious about building wealth, purpose, stability, leadership, and generational impact, this book provides the clarity many conversations avoid. How Marriage Adapted to Power, Markets, and Modernity from the 1500s to the Digital Age

by Novrena Dept. of Social Studies

Marriage has never been static. Across five centuries of revolutions, empires, industrialization, migration, and globalization, it has continuously adapted to shifting systems of power and survival. In *Following Marriage: How Marriage Adapted to Power, Markets, and Modernity from the 1500s to the Digital Age*, the Novrena Dept. of Social Studies delivers a sweeping global analysis of how marriage evolved across Europe, the United States, Russia, China, Egypt, and Southern Africa. Using a clear sociological and historical framework, this book examines marriage not as romance alone, but as one of society’s most durable organizing institutions. From feudal land inheritance and colonial racial systems to industrial wage labor, constitutional reform, feminism, demographic decline, and digital dating culture, marriage repeatedly reorganized itself to stabilize changing societies. This comparative study explores: • Church authority and feudal marriage in Europe • Slavery, race, and marriage in early America • Orthodox and Soviet marriage systems in Russia • Confucian lineage structures and modern urban pressure in China • Islamic contractual marriage traditions in Egypt • Bridewealth systems and post-apartheid reform in Southern Africa • Industrialization and urbanization across global regions • Feminism, workforce expansion, and dual-income households • Constitutional marriage and civil rights movements • Housing costs, delayed marriage, and demographic decline • Cohabitation, globalization, and the future of family stability Written in a serious but accessible analytical style, *Following Marriage* connects historical transformation with modern economic and demographic realities. Rather than treating marriage as fixed tradition, the book reveals how it consistently evolves alongside markets, states, law, and social order. For readers interested in sociology, history, political economy, family studies, globalization, and demographic change, this book offers a wide-ranging examination of one of humanity’s most adaptive institutions.

The Weight of Raising Black Sons

A Black Mother’s Guide to Teaching Masculinity, Survival, and Capitalism in America

by Novrena Dept. of Women, Identity, and Power

What does it truly mean to raise a Black son in America? In a world where Black boys are often taught survival before innocence, The Weight of Raising Black Sons is a powerful, emotionally grounded, and strategically necessary guide for mothers determined to prepare their sons for manhood with wisdom, discipline, and purpose. Blending the emotional depth of generational Black motherhood with sharp systems analysis rooted in economics, masculinity development, emotional discipline, and institutional awareness, this book speaks directly to the realities many families live but few books address honestly. Through deeply human urban stories and practical teaching, this book explores how Black mothers can help sons navigate: • Masculinity and emotional discipline • Capitalism, labor, and ownership • Public perception and institutional bias • Social media conditioning and image culture • Street influence and fast-money psychology • Fatherhood, responsibility, and leadership • Community stewardship and mentorship • Professionalism and strategic behavior • Economic literacy and long-term stability This is not a book built on shame, fear, or internet rhetoric. It is a compassionate but realistic roadmap for raising boys into disciplined, emotionally grounded, economically aware men capable of building stability instead of merely surviving struggle. Inside these pages, readers will discover why: • Love without preparation can become dangerous • Every environment teaches boys something • Emotional discipline is masculine strength • Production creates power while consumption creates dependency • Boys imitate what surrounds them • Ownership changes how men think • Healthy masculinity should improve environments, not destabilize them Written in a voice that is maternal, reflective, socially observant, and strategically educational, The Weight of Raising Black Sons honors the endurance of Black motherhood while offering practical guidance for the generations ahead. Because raising a Black son is not merely parenting. It is preparation. It is protection. It is leadership. And it is one of the most important responsibilities in modern America.

The Right Man Effect

A look at what the right man can do for a woman's mind, body, and soul.

by Novrena Dept of Women, identity, and power

What if the right relationship doesn’t weaken a woman’s power… but strengthens it? For years, women have been told two conflicting stories about love. One says that relationships require sacrifice—that in order to maintain connection, a woman must slowly abandon pieces of herself. The other insists that independence can only exist without deep partnership at all. But what if both ideas are incomplete? *The Right Man Effect* explores a different truth: The right partner does not compete with a woman’s strength. He protects it, supports it, and helps it flourish. Written in a thoughtful, emotionally intelligent style, this powerful nonfiction book examines how healthy relationships influence a woman’s peace, confidence, emotional healing, prosperity, and long-term legacy. Through reflective insight, psychological depth, and moving real-life inspired stories, this book explores how aligned partnership can become a force that builds rather than diminishes. Inside, you’ll discover: • Why emotional peace matters more than chemistry • The difference between attention and true support • How healthy relationships strengthen confidence and opportunity • Why emotionally mature men create stability instead of chaos • How respect transforms the foundation of love • The role of partnership in prosperity, healing, and generational legacy • Why the right relationship allows a woman to become more of herself—not less Featuring stories of women from all walks of life—including entrepreneurs, mothers, executives, artists, students, and women rebuilding after hardship—*The Right Man Effect* offers a grounded and inspiring exploration of what healthy love truly looks like. This is not a book about dependency. It is a book about alignment. For any woman who has ever questioned whether love and personal power can coexist, this book offers a calm and powerful reminder: The right partnership does not limit your life. Understanding Emotional Eating and how to Heal

Eating Our Feelings Understanding Emotional Eating and How to Heal By Novrena Dept. of Holistic Living Why do certain foods call to us when we’re stressed, lonely, angry, or exhausted? Why does eating sometimes feel less like nourishment—and more like relief? Eating Our Feelings explores the hidden emotional, psychological, and environmental forces that shape how and why we eat. Rather than treating emotional eating as a failure of discipline, this book reframes it as a learned survival strategy—one rooted in stress, relationships, childhood conditioning, and nervous-system overload. This is not a diet book. It is a behavioral and holistic examination of how food replaces safety, love, rest, and emotional regulation in a demanding world. Inside, readers will discover: Why cravings are often emotional signals, not nutritional needs How texture (crunchy, creamy, salty, sweet, chewy) reflects specific emotional states The role family systems and early conditioning play in adult eating habits How work stress, emotional masking, and burnout distort appetite Why acidic relationships quietly drive overeating or appetite loss How loneliness and emotional suppression lead to eating in secrecy Practical, non-restrictive methods to regulate emotions without using food Blending behavioral insight, holistic thinking, and real-world observation, Eating Our Feelings moves beyond blame and willpower. It shows how emotional eating develops, why it persists, and—most importantly—how it can be healed by addressing the conditions that create it. This book is for readers who: Feel stuck in cycles of stress eating or emotional snacking Want to understand their cravings instead of fighting them Are tired of being told to “just have discipline” Want a holistic, compassionate approach to eating and emotional health You were never broken. Your body adapted to what it was given. Eating Our Feelings helps you understand those adaptations—so food can return to what it was always meant to be: nourishment, not emotional survival.

What the World's Greatest Leaders Teach Men About Power and Judgement

by Novrena Dept. of Manhood Empowerment

LEAD LIKE THE GREATS What the World’s Greatest Leaders Teach Men About Power and Judgment Leadership is not charisma. It is power exercised with judgment. In Lead Like the Greats, readers are taken inside the real decisions, pressures, and consequences that shaped some of the most effective leaders in basketball, football, warfare, and business. This book does not romanticize leadership. It studies it—under stress, under scrutiny, and under responsibility. Across a 200,000-word, in-depth examination, this book focuses on individual leadership styles, revealing how different men wielded power differently—and why their judgment mattered as much as their authority. Each chapter centers on a single leader, beginning with a detailed biography that traces how upbringing, failure, discipline, and responsibility forged the leader’s temperament. From there, the narrative moves into defining games, campaigns, corporate crises, and decisive moments where leadership was tested. Readers will examine leadership across four arenas: Basketball coaching, where authority must coexist with ego, talent, and trust. Football leadership, where structure, accountability, and discipline determine outcomes. Warfare, where judgment carries life-and-death consequences and mistakes echo for generations. Business, where vision, ethics, and power shape institutions and markets. Rather than offering slogans or abstract models, Lead Like the Greats grounds leadership in specific moments—championship games, battlefield decisions, organizational collapses, and strategic pivots. Victories are analyzed honestly. Failures are not avoided. The cost of leadership—personal, moral, and human—is addressed directly. Written in the tradition of Dennis Kimbro’s What Makes the Great Great, this book balances inspiration with seriousness. Quotations are used sparingly and responsibly. Leadership is treated not as a personality trait, but as a discipline learned through pressure, accountability, and consequence. This book is for men who want to understand power without arrogance and judgment without hesitation. Because leading well is not about being followed. It is about being responsible for what follows.

WORKING MJ

by Novrena Dept of Sports History

Hardwood Face-Offs, Volume II How Teams Tried to Solve Michael Jordan Michael Jordan is usually written about as an inevitability. This book asks a different question. What happened when he wasn’t? Hardwood Face-Offs, Volume II is an opponent-focused examination of the players and systems that most effectively resisted Michael Jordan—not by stopping him, but by challenging the mechanics of his dominance. This is not a highlight reel. It is a structural analysis of resistance. Across nine in-depth chapters, this volume examines elite opponents such as Bernard King, Mark Price, Patrick Ewing, Joe Dumars, Isiah Thomas, Gary Payton, and Reggie Miller—players whose skills, discipline, and team structures forced Jordan to adapt rather than simply overwhelm. Each chapter is built around a single opponent and follows a consistent analytical framework: • the opponent’s basketball intelligence and background • the team system built around that player • games where Jordan was held below his averages or denied control • the adjustments Jordan was forced to make • the moments where Jordan ultimately overcame that resistance Rather than treating Jordan’s greatness as myth, this book treats it as a process—one refined through confrontation, constraint, and repeated challenge. It shows how interior gravity, perimeter discipline, movement-based offense, tempo control, psychological pressure, and institutional structure all limited Jordan’s leverage at different points in his career. This volume is not about who “beat” Jordan most often. It is about who made winning expensive. Written in a clear, authoritative, and unsentimental style, Hardwood Face-Offs, Volume II is designed for readers who want to understand basketball as a system—not just a collection of moments—and Jordan as a figure shaped by resistance as much as dominance. For readers interested in sports history, strategic analysis, and the anatomy of greatness, this book reveals what it actually took to challenge the most dominant player of the modern era.

How Kevin Samuels Reshaped Modern Gender Discourse

by Novrena Dept of Male Empowerment

Godfather of the Manosphere How Kevin Samuels Reshaped Modern Gender Discourse By Novrena Dept. of Male Empowerment Kevin Samuels did not invent the modern gender debate—but he changed how it was spoken, who was allowed to speak it, and how far it could travel. Rising at the intersection of digital media, collapsing institutions, and unresolved questions about intimacy and responsibility, Kevin Samuels became a defining voice of a cultural moment. His influence reached far beyond viral clips, shaping language, expectations, and the economics of modern gender discourse. This book is not a biography, a tribute, or an attack. Instead, Godfather of the Manosphere is a rigorous cultural analysis of why Samuels’ message resonated, how his authority emerged, and what his rise reveals about a society navigating scarcity, power, and fractured guidance. Drawing from psychology, media theory, Black intellectual tradition, and social structure, the book situates Samuels within a broader historical framework—one shaped by platform incentives, monetized conflict, and the absence of communal mediation. Rather than replay controversy, this work examines consequence: how accountability became spectacle how gender discourse evolved into a digital economy how clarity was gained—and where repair was lost how authority re-emerged when institutions receded Written with restraint, depth, and intellectual seriousness, this book treats Kevin Samuels not as a personality, but as a signal—pointing to unfinished cultural work that extends beyond any single voice. This is a study of influence, not celebrity. Of witness, not worship. Of a moment that continues to shape conversation long after the noise faded.

The Forgotten March

The Shameful Story of the Children’s Crusade

by Novrena Dept. of Global History

THE FORGOTTEN MARCH The Shameful Story of a Christian Crusade By Novrena Dept. of Global History In 1212, thousands of children left their homes and marched across Europe believing faith alone would deliver them to the Holy Land. They were not protected. They were not supplied. They were not stopped. Many never returned. The Forgotten March is not a retelling of legend. It is a structural indictment. Rather than romanticizing the so-called Children’s Crusade, this book exposes it as one of history’s most uncomfortable failures: a moment when religious authority, social institutions, and political power allowed children to absorb the cost of adult collapse. Through rigorous analysis of economic conditions, crowd psychology, institutional behavior, and historical silence, this book reframes the event not as tragic innocence—but as preventable neglect. This is not a book about miracles. It is a book about responsibility. Drawing on medieval chronicles, modern scholarship, and systems analysis, The Forgotten March reveals how belief replaced planning, symbolism replaced protection, and silence replaced accountability. It traces how children were mobilized, exposed, exploited, commodified, and ultimately erased from memory—because remembering would have required reform. This book challenges the comforting narratives that have survived for centuries and asks a harder question: What does a society reveal when it cannot—or will not—protect its children? This book is for readers interested in: Hidden or suppressed history The darker realities of the Crusades Institutional power and moral failure Religion analyzed through structure, not sentiment Social psychology, crowd behavior, and authority History written without romanticism or apology Unsentimental. Documented. Unavoidable. The Forgotten March restores accountability to a story long buried under myth—and forces readers to confront why it was forgotten in the first place.

GANGS AND CAPITALISM

Who Profits from the Gang Economy

by Novrena Dept. of Social Studies

Gangs and Capitalism: Gang Economy Gangs are often portrayed as symbols of chaos—violent, irrational, and disconnected from legitimate society. Gangs and Capitalism argues the opposite. This book examines gangs as predictable outcomes of exclusion and, more critically, as participants in a broader economic system that quietly profits from their existence. Rather than focusing on sensational crimes or individual figures, this work follows the everyday economics of gang life—what is bought, who gets paid, and how entire industries benefit from cycles of consumption, surveillance, punishment, and displacement. From clothing and branding to alcohol, automobiles, courts, prisons, media, and real estate, Gangs and Capitalism traces how money flows out of marginalized communities and into corporate, governmental, and institutional hands. It shows how identity becomes product, how fear becomes revenue, and how incarceration and redevelopment complete a profitable circuit. Written in a clear, unsentimental voice, this book does not excuse violence or glorify crime. Instead, it offers an economic accounting of systems rarely examined together, revealing how gangs are not outside American capitalism—but deeply embedded within it. This is not a story of disorder. It is a study of structure. It is not an argument of morality. It is an analysis of profit. By Novrena Dept. of Social Studies

SPIRITUAL SEXUALITY

Birth Energy and the Formation of Sexual Personality

by Novrena Dept. of Holistic Living

Spiritual Sexuality Birth Energy and the Formation of Sexual Personality Sexual energy is one of the most powerful forces in human life, yet it is also one of the most misunderstood. Modern culture treats sexuality as entertainment, identity, or indulgence, while older traditions often treated it only as something to control or suppress. Lost between these extremes is a deeper understanding: sexuality as life force. Spiritual Sexuality restores that understanding. Drawing from holistic health, psychology, and observations of human behavior across cultures, this book explores how birth timing, nervous-system rhythm, emotional memory, and environment influence the way individuals experience desire, bonding, and intimacy. Rather than reducing sexuality to performance or identity, this work presents a framework of seven sexual personalities—each shaped by birth energy and expressed through distinct patterns of attraction, attachment, and emotional regulation: The Warrior The Innovator The Leader The Healer The Dreamer The Realist The Counselor Each personality reveals both strengths and vulnerabilities in the way sexual energy is expressed. When understood and disciplined, these patterns lead to clarity, stronger relationships, and deeper vitality. When unconscious, they produce confusion, imbalance, and emotional instability. This book examines: • How birth energy influences sexual temperament • Why people bond, withdraw, or attach differently in relationships • The role of discipline and awareness in sexual health • The connection between sexual energy, emotional stability, and vitality • How conscious intimacy strengthens life rather than draining it Spiritual Sexuality is not a guide to performance or technique. It is a study of sexual energy as a human force that shapes health, attachment, and personal responsibility. Written for thoughtful adults seeking clarity rather than hype, this work invites readers to understand their own sexual nature and engage intimacy with awareness, discipline, and respect for the life force it carries.

Legal Decisions in the Era of American Slavery

by Novrena Dept. of Crime and Justice History

GAVELS AND SLAVES Selected American Court Decisions During the Era of Slavery By Novrena Department of Crime and Justice History Before emancipation was declared, slavery was argued, defended, limited, and enforced in courtrooms. Gavels and Slaves is a judicial history of slavery as law. This book does not retell plantation life. It does not offer cultural commentary. It does not move beyond emancipation. Instead, it examines the institution exactly where it operated with the greatest authority: in the decisions of American courts while slavery was still legal. Across eighteen cases—from State v. Mann and Commonwealth v. Aves to The Antelope, Jones v. Van Zandt, and Dred Scott v. Sandford—this volume reconstructs how judges defined citizenship, property, territorial power, interstate enforcement, criminal liability, and federal supremacy in a nation divided by law. These decisions addressed questions that shaped the legal structure of slavery: Could Congress prohibit slavery in federal territories? Did residence in free soil alter enslaved status? Could free states refuse to enforce slaveholder rights? Was the transatlantic slave trade illegal under international law? Could a free Black citizen sue in federal court? How far did a master’s disciplinary authority extend under criminal law? Each chapter centers on a single case. The analysis follows the record: how disputes arose, how they moved through courts, what judges decided, and how their reasoning defined the legal architecture of slavery. The book avoids dramatization and moral argument. It presents the doctrine as written. What emerges is not social history but institutional history. Slavery was not only a labor system; it was a legal regime administered through constitutional clauses, federal statutes, state codes, maritime law, and judicial interpretation. Courts stabilized it, limited it, and enforced it within the boundaries of the law as it then existed. The record ends where slavery remained lawful. No Reconstruction cases. No post-emancipation reinterpretation. No modern analogy. Only the judicial decisions rendered during the era in which slavery was recognized as legal authority. For readers interested in constitutional history, legal doctrine, and the institutional role of courts before the Civil War, Gavels and Slaves offers a structured, case-by-case examination of how American judges interpreted and applied the law of slavery. The verdicts are preserved in their own words.

Blind Musicians, Genius, and the Business of Sound

by Novrena Dept. of Music and Entertainment History

Blind musicians have shaped the sound of modern music across blues, jazz, soul, gospel, and classical traditions. Their work has been celebrated, archived, and endlessly replayed. Yet the economic systems surrounding that sound have rarely been examined with equal seriousness. Blind Genius is not a collection of inspirational biographies. It is an institutional and economic analysis of how musical brilliance functions inside industries not designed to protect blind artists. Through historically grounded case studies—including Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Art Tatum, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Clarence Carter, José Feliciano, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Andrea Bocelli, and the Blind Boys of Alabama—this book traces how blindness intersects with ownership, contracts, intermediaries, and institutional power. It examines why admiration so often substitutes for protection, why endurance is mistaken for success, and why sound can generate wealth long after the musicians who created it remain economically exposed. Rather than framing blindness as tragedy or triumph, Blind Genius treats it as an analytic lens. It reveals how access, verification, and control shape outcomes in the music business—and how disability makes structural inequalities impossible to ignore. Covering more than a century of recorded music history, this book moves across genres and markets to show a consistent pattern: genius is celebrated, institutions retain control, and ownership determines who ultimately benefits. Written for adult nonfiction readers, Blind Genius offers a clear-eyed examination of the business of sound beneath myth, biography, and nostalgia. This is not a tribute. It is an accounting.

When Prison Became a Ship

Justice, Punishment, and the Men Sentenced to Build the First European Colony in the Americas

by Novrena Dept. of Global History

The discovery of the Americas was not carried by heroes alone. It was carried by prisoners. When Prison Became a Ship is a rigorously researched work of global justice history that reframes the origins of European settlement in the Americas through an overlooked truth: some of the men who crossed the Atlantic with Christopher Columbus were not volunteers, explorers, or adventurers, but criminals, debtors, disgraced officials, and coerced laborers sentenced by the Spanish Crown. Drawing on archival records, legal codes, and contemporary accounts, this book reveals how late fifteenth-century Spain transformed punishment into policy. Courts commuted sentences not through mercy, but through transportation. Prisons emptied not into freedom, but onto ships. The Atlantic voyage itself became an extension of incarceration, and the colony became a destination for discipline. Across fourteen chapters, When Prison Became a Ship examines jailers, clerks, port constables, tax collectors, and supply officers whose crimes did not remove them from power, but redirected it. Their labor built fortifications, guarded harbors, enforced tribute, rationed food, recorded sentences, and sustained the earliest European colony in the Americas. Justice, confinement, and extraction moved together. This book argues that empire did not begin with settlement—it began with incarceration. The ship functioned as a mobile prison. The colony functioned as a penal institution. Punishment became the engine of expansion. Written in university-grade prose but accessible to serious general readers, When Prison Became a Ship challenges celebratory narratives of “discovery” and exposes the carceral foundations of Atlantic empire. It situates Columbus’s voyages within a broader system of law, coercion, and forced labor that would later shape colonial governance across the globe. This is not a story of individual villains or heroes. It is a history of institutions—and of the men sentenced to carry them across the ocean. By Novrena, Department of Global History

BERRY'S MUSIC WARS:

How Berry Gordy Fought Industry Exclusion, Contracts, and Control to Build Motown.

by Novrena Dept. of Music and Entertainment History

Berry’s Music Wars is not a celebration of Motown mythology. It is an examination of power. At the center of this book is Berry Gordy—not as a cultural icon, but as a strategist operating inside an American music industry structured to extract value from Black creativity while resisting Black ownership. Motown did not succeed because the system welcomed it, and Berry Gordy did not prevail because of luck or benevolence. He survived because he understood the industry as a battlefield—and built accordingly. From his earliest encounters with contracts, dispossession, and loss, Berry Gordy learned that talent without control was replaceable. Ownership became his defense. Centralized authority became his shield. Discipline became the cost of survival. As Motown grew from a Detroit experiment into a global force, resistance did not disappear. It adapted. Exclusion became containment. Denial became redirection. Praise became management. This book traces Berry Gordy’s strategic battles with radio gatekeepers, distributors, artists, unions, and corporations—not to assign moral purity or blame, but to show what durable ownership actually required under hostile conditions. It examines the decisions Berry made to lock down publishing, fragment visibility through multiple labels, manage saturation, and ultimately choose his moment of exit before control could be quietly absorbed. Berry’s Music Wars also confronts the costs of that strategy. Strained relationships. Delayed expression. Misrecognition. Isolation. These were not side effects. They were the price of endurance. The book refuses nostalgia and instead asks harder questions about why Berry’s blueprint was rarely inherited even after it was proven—why influence replaced ownership as the new ceiling, why speed was rewarded over structure, and why control became unfashionable precisely when it worked. This is not a story about defeating the system. It is a record of how one man learned to fight it intelligently—and when to walk away on his own terms. The conversation We can’t avoid:

How a Woman’s Inner Dialogue Shapes Her Reactions, Relationships, and Resilience

by Novrena Dept. of Women, Power, and Identity

The Conversation We Can’t Avoid How a Woman’s Inner Dialogue Shapes Her Reactions, Relationships, and Resilience By Novrena Dept. of Women Power and Identity Every woman lives two lives. The first happens inside her mind. The second unfolds in the world. Before she reacts, she speaks to herself. Before she loves, withdraws, doubts, or decides — she narrates. That inner narration shapes everything. The Conversation We Can’t Avoid is a deeply reflective exploration of the silent dialogue that influences a woman’s emotions, identity, relationships, ambition, exhaustion, and sense of meaning. Written in a calm, psychologically grounded tone, this book does not offer quick fixes or motivational slogans. It offers something more durable: awareness. Why do certain reactions feel automatic? Why does attachment sometimes bring fear before joy? Why does ambition trigger guilt? Why does rest feel undeserved? The answers are rarely found in circumstances alone. They are formed in the private conversations a woman has with herself long before the world ever sees her response. This book explores: How inner dialogue is formed through adaptation and survival How identity begins to shift when old roles no longer fit How fear of loss is rehearsed long before it happens How ambition challenges belonging How emotional fatigue builds through invisible mental labor How meaning emerges when effort softens How steadiness is cultivated through awareness, not control Through ten carefully structured chapters, this work traces the evolution of the inner voice — from critic and protector to companion and guide. It reframes emotional resilience not as suppression, but as relationship. Not as winning against the mind, but as learning to live with it wisely. Nothing lasts forever. Not fear. Not certainty. Not even confusion. When a woman understands this, she no longer needs to silence her thoughts. She learns to listen without being ruled by them. This book is for women who want depth rather than noise. For those who are strong in public but uncertain in private. For those ready to understand how the life they live outwardly is shaped first by the voice within. The conversation cannot be avoided. But it can be transformed.

Wives of the Revolution

A Historical Examination of the Lives of Black Revolutionaries’ Wives

by Novrena Dept. of African American Studies

Revolutions are remembered through speeches, marches, and martyrs. What history rarely records is who absorbed the consequences after the crowds disappeared. Wives of the Revolution is a historical examination of the lives of Black revolutionaries’ wives—women whose marriages placed them inside the blast radius of liberation movements that reshaped the twentieth century. While their husbands became symbols of resistance, these women endured surveillance, bombings, imprisonment by proxy, exile, assassination aftermaths, and the long silence that followed political victory or defeat. This book examines the lives of Amy Ashwood Garvey, Amy Jacques Garvey, Juanita Abernathy, Betty Shabazz, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, and Shirley Graham Du Bois, tracing how marriage itself became a political site—used by governments as leverage, by movements as infrastructure, and by history as a place of selective memory. Drawing on historical records, public testimony, declassified surveillance practices, and contemporaneous reporting, Wives of the Revolution moves beyond heroic mythology to examine what revolutions demanded privately from the women closest to power. From bombed homes and targeted churches to solitary confinement, forced exile, and widowhood under scrutiny, these wives lived the revolution in ways rarely acknowledged. This is not a collection of inspirational profiles. It is an accounting. Written with analytical clarity and narrative depth, the book confronts uncomfortable questions: What happens to marriages when the state turns the home into a battlefield? How does nonviolence redistribute danger rather than eliminate it? Why are some forms of endurance praised while others are punished? And why does history struggle to remember revolutionary women without flattening them? Wives of the Revolution is essential reading for those interested in Black history, political movements, gender and power, and the human cost of social transformation. Because freedom was never paid for by heroes alone.

Mchale against '84

by Novrena Dept. of Sports History

What “McHale Against ’84” Means Basketball history is usually told from the top down. Championships are summarized. Great players are remembered. Seasons are reduced to outcomes. What often gets lost is the work. Not the highlights, but the confrontations. Not the reputation, but the resistance. The NBA playoffs are not a continuation of the regular season; they are a different environment altogether. Roles tighten. Defensive assignments become deliberate. Players who were productive in space are suddenly required to operate under pressure, possession after possession, against people chosen specifically to make their jobs harder. This book is about that pressure. Hardwood Face-Offs is a series built around a simple premise: greatness is best understood by examining what a player faced when the game narrowed. This volume applies that premise to one postseason, one player, and one competitive environment. What “McHale Against ’84” Represents “Against ’84” is not a stylistic flourish. It is a constraint.

TRADEONOMICS How Skilled Trades Become Real Companies, Scaled Enterprises, and Generational Assets By Novrena Dept. of Business Research and Development Most people think a trade is just a job. This book proves it is an industry. TRADEONOMICS is not a motivation book. It is not a hustle guide. It is not a “start a small business” manual. It is a systems blueprint for turning skilled work into real companies, scalable enterprises, and long-term wealth. Every city is built by trades. Every factory is powered by trades. Every road, warehouse, data center, hospital, power plant, and infrastructure system exists because of trades. Yet most skilled workers are taught how to work — not how to own. TRADEONOMICS closes that gap. This book shows how electricians, concrete contractors, roofers, plumbers, HVAC technicians, site developers, logistics operators, and construction professionals can build institutional-grade companies that compete for commercial, industrial, municipal, and infrastructure contracts. It explains how real trade companies are structured, financed, scaled, and positioned inside the same systems used by the largest construction and infrastructure firms in the world. This is not about trading time for money. It is about trading skill for ownership. Inside this book, you will learn how to: Build a licensed, insured, bonded, and contract-ready company Structure your business for banking, financing, and capital access Secure equipment, fleet, and facility financing Qualify for commercial, municipal, and infrastructure contracts Build estimating systems and margin discipline Scale from one crew to multiple divisions Develop long-term maintenance and service contracts Enter public procurement and government contracting pipelines Build institutional compliance, safety, and operational systems Create a business that can be sold, franchised, or passed down TRADEONOMICS explains how real trade companies operate behind the scenes — the legal structure, financial architecture, banking relationships, insurance systems, bonding capacity, supplier networks, project controls, and professional infrastructure that separate small crews from real enterprises. This is the book for: Tradespeople who want to own, not just work Contractors who want to scale beyond small jobs Operators who want institutional contracts Builders who want generational businesses Entrepreneurs who want real assets, not side hustles Every trade is an industry. Every skill is a business platform. Every company is an economic engine. TRADEONOMICS shows you how to build yours.
